Dance Type: Contemporary

1:30 hours/bi-weekly      Age 13-19      Commitment runs October-May

Prerequisites: ADD-ON class. Must be registered in Contemporary Sen2C-Sen3C.

This LINE is for our senior dancers! Our hope is to combine as many dancers as possible from the two senior levels. Combining these groups will create both a memorable dance and some wonderful memories for the dancers! This group will incorporate the skills that they have learned from their years of contemporary dance along with innovative choreography that can only be done with large groups.

  • Dancers must commit to attending FRIDAY classes bi-weekly. (includes long weekends).
  • Attendance is of utmost importance.
  • A contract will be given that will outline the expectations for each line group.
  • This group will compete in 4 festivals (entry fees are extra).
  • This group will perform in our annual recital.
  • A costume will be required. (Costume fees are extra)
  • There will be a one-time payment of $125 to join. Payment will be applied to you account upon signing agreement in September.
  • No refunds given if dancer drops the class once the first class starts.

Classes will start Friday, October 12.

Registration:    Those interested in joining any of our LINES are welcome to express interest by email or in person once classes commence. You will receive an informational letter and contract. Once the signed contract is submitted, the office will register you into the LINE(S) of your choosing. You may choose multiple LINES to join.

1 hour                  Age 20+              Adult Class              Full Year Program

Prerequisites:    No exp required, but useful for this genre

This Adult Contemporary Dance class was created to celebrate community, music, exercise, and our love for dance! Discover new possibilities for movement, no matter what your previous movement experience may be. Each class will consist of warm up, preparatory exercises, and extended dance phrases with emphasis on ease, coordination, and moving through space.

Recital/Costume:    This class will compete in 3-4 competitions, the annual recital and require a costume.

Prerequisites:    Previously danced at DDA as an Int or Sen competitive dancer and/or faculty.

Open to former competitive dancers from DDA and/or faculty. This class will allow former dancers to reignite their love for dance! This class will use technique as a pathway to fluid and powerful expression and integrate principals of a variety of contemporary dance practices, such as the use of weight, suspension, breath, energy, and musicality

Recital/Costume:    This class will compete in 3-4 competitions, the annual recital and require a costume.

Contemporary dance is difficult to define because it is a genre, not a technique. It incorporates a collection of methods and techniques found in ballet, modern dance and postmodern dance giving it a unique look. Contemporary dance tends to be intricate and physical requiring dancers to move in ways they may not be used to. Contemporary dance may also deal with abstract concepts, images, or emotional extremes. It has a rawness that sets it apart from plot-driven ballets or Broadway jazz.

Prerequisites:

Contemp 1 Choreo    12-14 yrs     1 hour
Add on class: Enrolled in BInt3C or BInt4C

Contemp 2 Choreo    13-16 yrs    1 hour
Add on class: Enrolled in BSen2C

Contemp 3 Choreo    14-17 yrs    1 hour
Add on class: Enrolled in BSen3C

Recital/Costume:     Contemporary Choreo classes perform a routine in our annual recital and will require a costume.
